  Amid growing fears of a new major Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, The directorate of the merchant navy at the Moroccan ministry of transport and logistics  announced on Tuesday, March 10, that Morocco would suspend all maritime contact with Italy.

The decision is in line with the government’s directives to block the spread of COVID-19, add the directorate.

The suspension concerns all boats traveling between Moroccan and Italian ports. The  directorate has declared that the lifting of the suspension depends on the development of the epidemic in the European country.

“The companies concerned must take the necessary measures to inform passengers and avoid their travel to the ports of departure,” recommends the directorate.

Earlier on the same day,Moroccan Prime Minister Saad Eddine Othmani announced on Tuesday that his country has decided to suspend all flights to and from Italy, amid concerns over the emergence of the Corona virus.


The Moroccan Prime Minister wrote on his Twitter account: "Due to the spread of the Corona virus in Italy, the government of the Kingdom of Morocco has decided to suspend all travel to and from Italian homes until another notice be issued. "

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte imposed a national quarantine on the entire country and advised all Italians to stay at home except for necessities, work, and health circumstances.and he said on Monday, that Italy would be closed until next month after the country witnessed 9,172 confirmed virus cases and 463 deaths.
