House of Representatives Votes to Impeach President Trump

House of Representatives Votes to Impeach President Trump.

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted on Wednesday to impeach President Donald Trump after 10 hours of partisan debate as the House of Representatives formally charged him with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
Lawmakers say Trump abused the power of the office of the president of the United States in his dealings with Ukraine by temporarily freezing nearly US$400 million in military aid.

Officials allege the freeze was a bid to pressure the Ukrainian government to publicly announce separate investigations into purported interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election as well as former vice-president and political rival Joe Biden’s son Hunter‘s work on the board of a Ukrainian energy company.

The votes made Trump only the third president in United States history to be impeached and set the stage for a likely trial in the Republican-led Senate in January. No president has ever been removed from office via the impeachment process set out in the Constitution, and Republican senators have given little indication of changing that.
