LONDON (AP) - According Scotland police , two pilots were arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs before a scheduled trip to New Jersey.

Flight 162 was scheduled to leave for Newark, New Jersey, Glasgow airport at 9 am local time on Saturday. It was canceled after the arrests.

Scotland police says the 61 and the 41 years-old pilots,  have been detained in a section of the Transport Safety Act, which covers career poisoning and bad aviation.

Under the law, the legal limit for alcohol for pilots, navigators and other aviation personnel undergoing breathing tests is less than half the limit for motorists on Scotland roads.

"The safety of our customers and employees is always our top priority, we are committed to all our employees at the highest standards and we have a strict alcohol-free policy, absolutely with the local authorities," wrote US Representative Jonathan Guerin in a statement today.

Guerin added that the airline provided vouchers for hotel meals for passengers and booked them on alternate trips.

Flight 162, which operates daily, left at 9:23 am local time and arrived in Newark at 11:16 am EDT, according to FlightAware Flight Tracking. She left Monday's flight on time.
